Description / TRC 30 Amp Portable RV Surge Guard with LCD Display
LCD display will continuously monitor and display (in English) voltage and amp draw on all legs (30A – One leg/50A Legs One & Two). LCD display will also show faults (when occurred) for reverse polarity (miswired pedestal, elevated ground voltage).
You wouldn't try and navigate your entire vacation on unfamiliar roads without a map, so don't just blindly plug into a power supply that you are unfamiliar with. The 30 amp Surge Guard unit continuously monitors your power supply and shuts off automatically when it detects any power irregularities that could damage electronic equipment in your RV. The TRC Surge Guard also has a built in 2 minute delay which will reset the unit automatically after a power loss due to under voltage. This is necessary to save your a/c compressor and other small working motors from catastrophic failure if a "brown out" scenario were to occur. The 30 amp portable unit can be moved from coach to coach and does not require permanent installation. As with most things, you get what you pay for. This unit has the highest surge protection rating of any of the RV surge protectors I looked at before making a decision. When you plug it into the campground electric pedestal, the Surge Guard analyzes the connection and the voltage for two minutes before cycling on. If the voltage is substandard or the outlet is wired incorrectly, it will not complete the connection, but will alert you to the problem with a blinking red light and a digital readout. Considering the cost of repairing (not to mention a ruined trip) a refrigerator, microwave, air conditioner, television, etc., it is well worth the investment. To protect the unit from theft, I use a padlock on the electrical box if possible or wrap it with a Master Lock cable secured around the pedestal.

Dyer's provided the best price, reasonable shipping and very quick delivery! Have only used once at RV park so far, but in testing plugged into shore pwr at home, it appears to work very well. At RV park, I luckily plugged it in right away and it alone registered fact that the power post had no power to it, so we moved to another site before fully setting up! That means when we pull into a site w/power, first thing I will do it plug in the Surge Guard just to be sure it tells us we have good power! Appears to monitor the power very well and if it will prevent damage to components even once when plugged into inadequate supply, it pays for itself! I only gave 4 stars on value/price because it seems it should be able to operate in any position, not just in the verticle. Sometimes, I've had some oddly configured power posts! As far a locking it, I have determined that wrapping it to the post with a Gorilla Cable lock will do more to confound a would be thief than the hokey plastic box sold by surge guard! But most RV'rs look out for one another and are not bent on stealin from one another!

I bought this after camping and being worried about having problems with campground power. Just went to the dells and used this and it kept on shutting down on the pole assigned to our campsite. I plugged into the next door site with no problems. So I would say it helped save the day by letting us know there was a problem.
