Customer Reviews
Ordered a four pack in the hope of replacing at least the two bad locks and wanted common key. Arrived on time - maybe a day early. As the picture shows, they come with two flanges - flat and offset. Two keys work all four locks and all did turn. One thing to note - you cannot remove the key from the lock with the lock 'open'. You must lock the lock to remove the key.
Started installation with thickest door (had three different thicknesses) which had a 1 1/8' lock originally. The offset on the flange was not enough and the door would not lock. Unfortunately, couldn't use the flange from the old lock because the flange on these locks fits over a keyed threaded post that rotates as the lock is turned (shape of post is exactly like the barrel of the lock - threaded on top and bottom and flat on sides). A bolt holds the flange on (note: the thread is metric - M7). On the old lock (and all others I've seed) the flange fits over a square protrusion and a screw is used to tighten it to the lock.
I looked carefully and it appeared the new flange was off by just a bit -> adjustment time. First attempt was to add a washer or two between the lock and flange. One washer was not enough and two didn't leave enough thread exposed to attach the nut . I was able to bend the flange out by using two sets of channel locks (no vise at that location) - perfect fit. Second door was same thickness and a piece of cake. It had a second 'lock' with no key that was very difficult to close. Channel locks to the rescue. The third door (toilet cassete) should have only had a 7/8' lock. Inserted the lock, took the offset flange and applied a little channel lock magic, reversed the offset flange and presto, three doors now working perfectly with one key and I have a spare lock in case one fails (which I do not anticipate). And the best news is these three doors now pass the 'wife test' - "This is easy".
FYI - my guess is I bent one of the flanges more than a 1/4', so plenty of play. This lets you use the four pack for multiple doors even if they are of different thicknesses.
The only disadvantage is that a locksmith cannot re-key these to match existing keys. They cannot be taken apart. I have a leftover 7/8" lock from a previous RV and need it for my new rigs water compartment. I will have to try to find one keyed to match the current locks. Make sure when you purchase them, if you order more than 1 pack, that you request they be keyed alike.
