Exact Replacement for a 15 year old model

Glad to find an exact replacement for our 15 yr old heater. Installation was pretty simple, except that they changed the gas line fitting (downsized from 1/2" to 3/8") so that required an unexpected trip to the hardware store. They also removed the insulation from between the tank and the aluminum control housing, even though it is still shown on the box. (If you cut corners, at least cover your tracks!) Dyers was fantastic. The first heater arrived damaged, and they had the manufacturer ship out a new one even before the old one was picked up. The heater arrived in a plain cardboard box - no styrofoam around the control housing to protect it, so its easy to see how it could get fdented up in shipping. Ordered from Dyers because we could talk to a real person.

The water heater works fine with no adjustment, even at 8000 ft. Not too hard to install. 2 complaints: 1. There is no drain. You have to find a 1 1/8" socket to pull out the anode rod every time you want to drain it. If you replace the rod with a valve, you lose the corrosion protection. 2. There is no outer casing. The foam insulation is exposed to rodents and other damage.

After trying to contact several venors from their websites, this was the only one that i actually got to speak with a person immdeiately. That was a big plus. I bought this water heater because it was a direct replacement for an existing unit. The old one worked for over 20 years but the hot water was starting to get a rusty color. This unit went right in with no trouble. Delivery was very quick and the price was about the best I could find.
